So… how’s the food? We get this question all the time. Our campers and staff are very happy with the food that we serve. We have a qualified and experienced kitchen staff led by our kitchen manager who is a home economics teacher and has spent fourteen summers at North Star. Our meals primarily are food that kids like and we have lots of experience to know what these foods are. We also want to make sure that the food is nutritious. We feel a huge responsibility to support good eating habits. We serve whole grains whenever possible, fresh fruits and vegetables, unbleached flour, healthy oils and limit sugar as much as possible. We make much of our food from scratch and offer a daily salad bar. Fruit is available in the afternoon for a mid-day snack.
We also know the seriousness of food allergies and accommodate whenever we can. If your child has any special dietary needs, please give us a call to discuss his needs. We also provide a vegetarian option for campers and staff that do not eat meat. Meals at North Star are served family style. Four times a week we will have outdoor picnics and barbecues. One night a week the boys cook their own food at their cabin cookout sites.
