Wilderness First Responder Course

This 72+ hour course is the industry standard for professional outdoor guides, ski patrol, and trip leaders, or for individuals who want a high level of wilderness medical training for extended personal backcountry trips or expeditions. The course is being run by Global EMS Solutions and their instructors, utilizing Wilderness Medical Associates International’s (WMAI) curriculum.

Course Dates, Costs and Additional Information

Tuesday, May 18th – Monday, May 24th, 2027

Course Registration: $800
Lodging at North Star: $150
Meals: $150
Minneapolis – St. Paul Airport Shuttle (each way): $75

The WFR Course will be held at North Star Camp, located at 10970 W. Boys Camp Road, Hayward, WI 54843. Costs includes course and materials.

Instruction begins at 9am on May 18th. Participants who are staying at North Star are encouraged to arrive the afternoon or evening of May 17th. Dinner will be provided on the 17th. Ending time on the final day of the course will be determined by the instructor. Participants are expected to be at the course for its entirety and pass all quizzes and exams in order to obtain certification.

Meals During The Course

For those opting to have their meals provided, North Star Camp will provide breakfast, lunch and dinner over the duration of the course, beginning with dinner the night before the course starts.

If you have dietary needs or allergies, please note them in the provided section of the course registration. North Star Camp will be able to accommodate most dietary needs. In the case that North Star Camp cannot provide accommodation, participants will be notified upon registration.
Lodging at North Star Camp

All participants will be staying in a cabin on camp property throughout the duration of the course. Cabin assignments will be based on gender. If you wish to discuss specific housing needs, please email dan@northstarcamp.com.

Cabins are not heated, but do have electricity. Cabins do not have toilet and shower facilities, but we have washhouses in close proximity to the cabins.

Please bring your own bedding, pillows and towels. Please bring twin or cot sized sheets and blankets for your bed.
Travel To North Star Camp

Unless we are notified otherwise, we will assume that you or your camp/organization is providing transportation to and from the course. For participants who are driving to the course, North Star Camp’s address is 10970 W Boys Camp Rd, Hayward, WI 54843.

For participants selecting airport shuttle service, we have set departure and arrival times for our airport shuttle. Please email dan@northstarcamp.com with a tentative itinerary before you book flights to ensure that the timing matches our shuttle schedule.
