Espionage & Peels Day
Last night was the long-awaited evening program: Espionage! A camper and counselor favorite, Espionage is a night of stealthy fun that starts after dark, where the boys dress up in dark clothes and camouflage paint to try and sneak through camp and save the day from whatever themed malice our staff comes up with for the session. With the theme a closely guarded secret from the campers, before the game begins, the staff writes and performs a skit to reveal the session’s theme.

This session’s theme was Star Wars, where campers had to sneak around camp winning lightsaber duels and using “the force” to complete challenges, until “Order 66” turned their guides against them. After the skit, counselors explained the campers’ mission and goal of the game: collect galactic credits by winning lightsaber duels and escape the “war torn planet of North Star.” Each group then went back to their cabin to meet their guides and then to follow clues that led them through a series of challenges around camp. After the challenges concluded and galactic credits collected, the campers then had to sneak into the Council Ring without getting caught by the Sith Lords! The final bell rang and everyone returned to the lodge with their cabins to announce the winners: the sly cabins of J6, I3, and S1!

After the late bedtime, we all got to sleep in extra late for Peels Day (sleep spelled backwards!). Peels Day began with campers trickling into the lodge any time they pleased from 8:30 to 10:30 for an unbelievable breakfast of made-to-order omelets and eggs, coffee cake, cereal, and danishes, prepared by our phenomenal kitchen staff that worked so hard all morning to accommodate our relaxed schedule. After breakfast, we had two organized free periods with a picnic lunch in between. Campers got to choose what they wanted to do all day, from Waterskiing to Chess to finishing up their art projects in the Arm and Hammer. We also had our rocket launch this morning, campers got to set off the rockets they built in the rocketry program this session. Following our second organized free, we had the Camper-Counselor Hunt, where the campers hid and our counselors ran to catch and tag them for the final event in the session’s Green-White series. We capped off the day with an evening program of Predator-Prey.

The result of this year’s Presidential election for the Great and Glorious North Star Party was also announced this morning! After a race so tight it required a runoff, the final winner was the ticket of Kandelson, running on the water-at-breakfast platform. Congratulations to our new President and Vice President, Josh Kandelman and Sam Jacobson! Keeping with our tradition, the winners were hoisted by their fellow campers and tossed (safely) into the lake in uproarious celebration. The pair will get to attend staff meetings as representatives of the campers’ voice and will get the opportunity to propose projects that they’re passionate about around camp under their set budget. This Friday Night, the two will fold the flag from the flagpole in front of the whole camp for their first time as President and Vice President as part of their executive responsibilities.
Today also marked the last day of regular programming for our first session-only campers, although they still have plenty of camping left. Time really does fly by when you’re having fun.
