Staff Spotlight: Michael Berger

Michael Berger is returning for his thirteenth summer at North Star and first as a Village Director. Right before camp, he graduated from American University in Washington, DC, with a degree in journalism and political science. Michael is originally from Chicago, and will be spending most of his time at camp at the riflery range or arts and crafts.

I would love to backpack around Europe for a few months

The ability to transport anywhere instantly

The inaugural Lumberjack World Championship in 1960

A flute with no holes, is not a flute. A donut with no hole, is a Danish.

I’m double jointed in both hands

What advice would you give to someone coming to North Star for the first time?


Be open to new experiences and get out of your comfort zone.  You never know what you’ll like until you try it.

Share one notable camp memory:

Going down Cedar Rapids on the Lower Flambeau River.  It’s always a highlight of the summer, and its usually where campers learn that rapids can be fun.
