It Might Be…It Could Be… It is! The Big 10!
This afternoon we paid tribute to seven wonderful staff members who have each spent 10 years at North Star: Jacob Sosler, Oli Katz, Ben Rothschild, Jack Pinsky, Leo Auerbach, Cole Hanover and Danny Marcus. While the whole camp thought we were just gathering for snacktime, six counselors emerged, blowing whistles and unveiling a vibrant banner that read, “It might be, it could be, it is!” The camp erupted in cheers and applause as we readied the celebration, but nobody else got out of the van. So the 7 staff members assumed it was just another fake. But then we looked to the lake and there were boats filled with old friends and family coming onto shore for a special evening.
To mark this momentous occasion, each of our Big Ten guys had a friend or family member share a story about them. Even though some tales were slightly embellished, we laughed together as we honored each of these fantastic gentlemen. We feasted on a delicious BBQ chicken dinner and then finished up with amazing cakes for dessert.
The Big Ten counselors have left an indelible mark on so many people at camp, and their journey is a testament to the transformative power of camp. Each of these guys has grown so much through their time here, and I know that they will continue to make camp a better place and will go on to do great things in the world as well.
In preparation for our United Nations Day, last night’s Friday Night Service was about global citizenship. We spoke about our vibrant camp community, where staff from around the world have come together to create a unique experience for our campers. Our diverse team hails from different countries, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge, experiences, and cultural insights. We believe in the power of exposure to diverse perspectives, and each staff member, with their distinct background and expertise, serves as a cultural ambassador by sharing their own unique traditions and customs. Our goal is for every camper to learn to be open-minded, inquisitive and ready to participate in making the world a better place.

He marks not that you won or lost,
But how you played the game.”
