It’s been an absolutely beautiful weekend at camp. The sun has been shining and the spirit has been high. Cabin I-6 returned from their Brule River canoe trip today and so camp is full and happy. We had a great evening with Unorganized Free and Cabin campfires to tie a bow on the second week of first session. We had a rousing game of North Star Ball during 4th period, with the Green Team emerging victorious.
Last night was our Dodgeball Extravaganza, which is a spirited competition between the campers and the counselors for Green-White. The Green Team staff from each village play against the White Team campers from each village, and vice versa, with each round having a winner. The campers and counselors love to wear silly outfits, make up silly cheers and just make for a very fun evening.
This weekend was also our Rookie Weekend, where prospective campers and their families can come to visit. While it’s wonderful to have visitors, the thing that makes me most proud is the way that every camper and counselor makes sure to help make our guests feel welcome. It was such a wonderful representation of the culture we work so hard to build, and our guests all pointed out how kind and warm everyone was to them. I am very proud of our campers and counselors!
Tonight we announced the captains for United Nations Day. Four campers from each village were selected by the staff to lead their teams in a day of competition to take place next Saturday. The campers were selected for their leadership in standing up for North Star’s values. As we hand the campers their torches, it kicks off an exciting week of build up to one of our special days.
But amidst some upcoming special days at camp, today was also notable for being a totally normal day at camp. We have so much great stuff happening on a normal day at camp that it’s worth celebrating that as well. We have new projects running this week like rugby and the return of a camper-published version of The Siren. We are seeing great instruction on so many programs and great things happening in our cabins as well. An ordinary day at camp is pretty extraordinary!
